Day 13, June 12
Sorry, it has been a while since we have done an update. We have been working hard!
This morning some of our group are going shopping for gifts for loved ones back home.
Over the past week we have been digging buracos (holes), 65 of the blessed things with a grand total of over 565 feet! We are done digging!! YEEHAW!! Just over half of the holes have been filled in with cement and rebar in spite of losing power on Thursday and then the electric motor for the cement mixer going up in smoke on Friday. Surprisingly, we got the motor back repaired in just a few hours!
On Wednesday afternoon we visited Asas de Socorro (Wings of Mercy). They are a spinoff from MAF that trains pilots and mechanics for the mission field. We also visited SIL/Wycliffe that shares office and hangar space with Asas. There we met a husband and wife team, Fritz (from Switzerland) and Anneke (from Holland). They shared some fascinating stories with us about the spread of the Gospel throughout Brazil and nearby countries.

Picture a Kodiak in here someday!
An unexpected blessing for our team has been the addition of a stray American believer. James arrived from Philadelphia two days after we did. He is pursuing a PhD in history and speaks fluent Spanish and wanted to learn/improve his Portuguese. Somehow he got connected with the Bachellers and he joined up with us to work and help with interpreting between us and Luciano, our Brazilian foreman. He's also 27 and has helped in a HUGE way with the workload. Thank you, James!!!
James & Luciano, hard at work!
Does anyone know how to run this thing?
Marcello & Denise, missionaries living and working at Oasis
The group, having Caldo - soup and everything corn.
Digging the last 5 meter burasco. And yes, it took 4 of us to get it done.
Would you trust this man to fly you anywhere?
Some evenings we have been too tired to do anything but crash and rest. Other times, some of us have gone in to the Bachellers' home to spend time with Kathy and Joy (Bill flew back to Chicago for a son's graduation and will return in a couple days). In between all of this we are taking turns trying to do laundry and hanging it to dry in the dark!
Art's driving days as a policeman have come in handy - he's really good at following Kathy or Bill's car amidst crazy traffic (you do understand that stop signs and some signals are just suggestions, right?). Dave has also done some driving and so far neither have gotten lost!
